Founder, Travis Matthews Interviewed by Platform

Who

Rarely do we as artists and founders get the opportunity to open up, intimately, about our process and inspiration, on a platform so innovative as Platform. Town Studio founder, Travis Matthews was interviewed recently, interview linked here, and given this opportunity. We, in turn, wanted to share some of what we shared with you, our Town audience.

Many of our followers know that Travis Matthews has shot prolific work for Beyonce, Skims, and campaigns for Serena Williams, but you may not be aware of his broader body of work. Matthews career spans fashion, portraiture, and landscape and is categorized as sensitive, searching, and beguiling by Platformart.com.

In fifth grade Travis began shooting and grew to deeply admire the work of Nadine Ijewere, Ronan McKenzie, and Renell Medrano. The composition and raw power of their bodies of work struck him, and are inspiration for this style. He works with film and often develops his own, allowing him complete control the exposure and hence the light that the women exude. The result is a photograph that displays a deep power and knowing of women.

Platform is an ecommerce gallery meticulously curated in partnership with gallery owner David Zwirner. This is a stage for the best new artists and offers a monthly roster of new pieces from independent galleries. Beyond overexposure, which is a byproduct of ecommerce art platforms, Platform is committed to developing artists, increasing awareness of their work, and increasing the value of work through storytelling. If you are in the market, check it out.
